DERBY
2007
May
2006 saw Raiders U12's go through as finalists in the Clubs for
Young People Tournament to represent Northern Ireland in Derby.
They played against finalists from England, Scotland and Wales.
Whilst Raiders U12's did not win the competition, they put an
amazing performance and did the Club proud. The experience and
memories they gained from the trip was likened to that which the
Raiders U17's experienced when they travelled to Manchester in
2005 to compete in the Umbro International Tournament where they
achieved Runners-up position. The Manchester Tournament is still
talked about today with a great passion. Both trips never to be
forgotten!
January/February
2007 has seen the Raiders U14's and U16's win the final heats
in the CYP Tournament and both sections will be travelling to
Derby in May 2007, again representing Northern Ireland.
The
U16's had comfortable wins in the Finals of the tournment held
in Jordanstown, but are under no illusions that the standard in
Derby will be much higher and they are aware what it will take
to truly given and account of themselves in May. The squad consists
mainly of Juniors who have come up through the ranks and have
trained and played together during the last 4 years. Most of them
were part of the Senior Thirds Team last year and many may well
be looking at a place in the Seniors Seconds in 2007. That said,
this will be beneficial to the girls when they travel to Derby
and all that is left to do is to put in the hard work over the
next 3 months.
The
squad consists of:-
Shelly
Edgar, Amy Millar, Naomi McKnight, Lauren McAteer, Cathryn Holmes,
Leanne Watson, Natasha Lee, Rebecca Adams.
The
U14's had a much more difficult task in the Finals. The opposition
were teams which had been together for some time, indeed Carrickfergus
were the winners of this age group in 2006. The teams were fit,
well drilled and appeared to want the opportunity to play in Derby
as much as the Raiders did. Having said that Raiders U14's never
lost a game and did look in control in every game. They included
3 of the U12's from last year, having stepped up with the age
groups being revised by the CYP. Thrilled with the outcome of
the Tournament the Junior Section of the Club are now in preparation
for what lies ahead in May.
The
Squad consists of:-
Amber
Dempster, Hannah Sheffield, Rebecca Hatty, Megan Strachan, Lauren
Kane, Jessie Davidson, Roberta Heaney, Ashleigh Flannigan.
